All Mac users know that
Mac laptops can get a little too hot for comfort. So a laptop cooler
like Moshi's Zefyr Pro is something that should come in very handy.
The Zefyr Pro is made from
aluminium, measures a mere 19.8 by 9.8cm and weighs only 305g. The
sides pull out to increase the total length to 32.5cm which is perfect
to rest your 15" MacBook Pro on. The top of the cooler contains
a 'high-thermal conduction interface compound', which according
to Moshi provides a direct heat conduction path between the MacBook's
bottom casing and the Zefyr's cast aluminum heat sink assembly.
The left side when pulled
out reveals a tiny fan and a short usb cable which you plug into
your Mac's USB port. It's a pass-through connection so you don't
lose your USB port.
The fan is virtually silent.
In fact it can't be heard at all. The bottom of the Zefyr has a
sort of curved design and this rests nicely on your laps. As it
is placed at the screen end of the MacBook it creates a nice raised
angle for comfortable typing.
So how does it perform?
I'd like to say it does a great job keeping my MacBook Pro cool
but the reality is it only seems to cool it slightly. Yes, the heat
does transfer to the Zefyr but it doesn't seem to disperse well
enough. The bottom of my Mac still retains a lot of the heat.
Perhaps the fan is too small.
Or perhaps there should be two fans. It's a shame because the Zefyr
Pro is cleverly designed and is light and extremely portable for
a laptop cooler.
