seemed to just whiz pass by as we reached the last MacFest of the
year. Following on from last month's 'Fest held in conjunction with
the Mac+iPod Discovery Week, this month's session was held at 1Utama.
Unfortunately the place was very noisy, with music and all sorts
of commotion coming from nearby stalls and shops.
However the show had to
go on. Two speakers were lined up for the evening, each one doing
two presentations.
David started first and
talked about the iTunes App Store. He showed us how to set up an
account and then walked us through the online store showing what
sort of apps and games were available for downloading. These apps
could be installed on both the iPod touch and the iPhone.
For his second presentation
David demonstrated how to set up the blogging software WordPress
on the Mac. He used MAMP,
an open source Web platform built upon Mac OS X, to set up his own
server on his MacBook. After a few copying and pasting of codes
WordPress was all ready to go.
The second speaker was Azizi
who talked about Fluid.
Fluid is an app which allows us to create Site Specific Browsers
to run each of our favorite web apps as a separate Cocoa desktop
application. Azizi used Fluid for things like Gmail, Basecamp and
Google Docs.
Coincidentally, Azizi's
next presentation was on the similarly named but completely different
app called FluidTunes.
This software lets us control iTunes from a webcam, using our hands,
head or feet, without touching our Mac! Minority Report finally
becomes a reality.
As there was still a little
time, Azizi finished off his session by playing a neat little slide
show of hundreds of photos he took during the recent landslide at
Bukit Antarabangsa.
The evening ended with the
usual lucky draws. This time in addition to some books, there were
also a moshi case, Harmony Express 5.1 dongle and a myMUG cap that
were given away.
