| Just
when we thought our projector problems were over (see
last MacFest), the DVI cable that Redza kindly brought was the
wrong size! After cracking our brains for a solution it was finally
decided to use Shah's videocam to capture the Macs' screens to display
through the projector....a sort of poor-man's 'live' broadcast.
The first presentor was
Zalee and he talked about Final
Cut Studio 2, giving an overview of the new features available.
All of them were pretty cool indeed, especially the smooth slow-motion
effect.
Firdaus, a first-time speaker,
then did a presentation on Swift
3D which is a 3D vector graphics animation tool. He showed his
creation of the myMUG logo is 3D and how it could easily be animated.
He then highlighted some sites which used Swift 3D.
Next up was Shah who demonstrated
how to integrate our Macs with our mobile phones. He showed how
to download the necessary plug-ins and scripts and talked us through
the process of setting up our Nokias, Sony Ericssons, etc. so that
we can, for example, send text messages by typing on our Macs instead
of our phones.
Lastly, I showed about 10
or 11 Mac tips and keyboard shortcuts. Amongst them were saving
as Compress PDF, manipulating iTunes Visualiser, sorting images
in Preview Drawer and Screen Capture to Clipboard.
Four books were given away
for the lucky draws, including a book on GarageBand/Podcasting and
one on Applescript. The grand prize for the night was the Moshi
Codex 13 MacBook case and the lucky winner was Amin.
After the event a number
of us walked over to the Nasi Kandar 'cafe' for drinks and roti.
